nicipality pay a visit. They share with us trade union problems in
dealing with the local mayor and describe what they want to do.
4 October 2013 Friday
In recent days we have been able to see a growth in the inter-
est of the media and the sensitivity of people towards our resist-
ance. Since the morning hours, people have been coming to our
tent and have even started to take sweaters because of the feelings
of solidarity that have been created. In the afternoon one of the
CHP members of parliament for Istanbul, Aykut Erdogdu, as well
as friends of his from his regional party organisation, visited us.
At the same moment we receive word that some of our worker
friends in the Besiktas municipality whose right to establish a
trade union is being obstructed and who wanted to set up a tent
in front of the municipality building to protest against it have been
detained by the police. We tell the member of parliament about
it. Aykut Erdogdu phones the CHP mayor of Besiktas Ismail Unal
and says in connection with competence of authority that there is
no need for discussion regarding the legal process and that the
mayor should do what is necessary to get the detained workers re-
leased. He makes a similar call to the head office of his own party
and says that he will continue to follow up the situation of our
friends who are detained. We thank him for this. We are invited
to a meal by Tez-Koop’s no.5 branch, and two of our friends go
there and talk about our resistance.
