Introduction/Warm Up Aerobic warm up of large muscle groups and
cardiovascular system -
This unit will focus on the following: Definitions (from dictionary.com) Equipment: hula hoop, music optional
Endurance: the ability to endure an unpleasant or difficult process or
situation without giving way.
Coordination: Harmonious functioning of muscles or groups of muscles in
the execution of movements.
Learning Activities/Teaching Strategies
1. Set up – Teacher will put the setup in the classroom.
2. Teacher will make students stand in one corner maintaining discipline.
3. Teacher will start the class with the warm up Happy Feet.
4. Teacher will introduce and explain the activity to the class.
5. Teacher calls out "front to front" and the children have to get into a pair
and stand 'front to front', i.e. face each other.
6. After about 5 different instructions, the teacher shouts "change" and the
children have to quickly find a new partner and stand in the manner of
the teacher's last instruction.
7. Other instructions will be: back to back, elbow to elbow, side to side, toe
to toe, finger to finger, knee to knee, hand to hand, shoulder to
shoulder. Assessment Ideas: A – Student's ability to maintain personal space
8. Mix them up too, e.g. finger to shoulder, knee to hip, front to back etc. B – student’s cooperative, respectful, & safe behaviours
9. Be creative and invent actions for different action card etc. for Cho's. C – student’s ability to recall action associated with each term
Call out "stop!" and get the kids to freeze. D – student’s Increased heart rate can be assessed through students
feeling their pulse quickly during and after the activity.
