GENERAL ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

Upon completion of the installation, the Electrical Contractor shall test and commission
the emergency lighting system to the requirements of BS 5266 : Part 1.
A test certificate similar to that detailed in Appendix ‘A’ of BS 5266 : Part 1 shall be
completed and signed by the Electrical Contractor.
The original certificate shall be handed to the Project Manager and a copy shall be
included in the Operating and Maintenance Manual.
2.12 GENERAL SMALL POWER
2.12.1 Mixed Wiring Systems
Where mixed wiring systems exist, as in an existing building under refurbishment, the
Electrical Contractor should install a warning label at the interface between the old and
the new cabling.
This label should be yellow with a block type face with the following narrative.
CAUTION
This installation has wiring colours
to two versions of BS 7671.
All new wiring shall use the new harmonised cable colours as indicated in Amendment No
2 (AMD 14905) to BS 7671: 2001.
2.12.2 BS 1363 Socket Outlets
It shall be noted that all socket outlets must be protected by an earth leakage protection
device within the main L.V. distribution equipment rated at 30mA.
The Electrical Contractor shall supply and install general BS 1363 13A switched socket
outlets in the positions indicated on the Architects drawings.

Cabling to sockets shall generally be installed as 4.0mm , 3-core YY cable.
Switched socket outlets shall be of the following types;
