2.12.2.3 Mounting Heights

The mounting height of socket outlet shall generally comply with the requirements of Part
M of the building regulations; as the following table unless otherwise indicated by the
Architects drawings:
Thermostats 1650mm to centre
Fire alarm break-glass unit 1200mm to centre
BS1363 socket outlets for 450mm to bottom (or 150mm above worktop level to
internal installations centre).
BS1363 and BS EN 60309 1200mm to centre
socket outlets for external
installations

BS EN 60309 sockets for Refer to specific equipment requirements identified by
kitchen areas H&K.
FCUs in public spaces 2200mm above finished floor

Flush socket outlets shall be mounted on steel boxes to BS 4662 : 1989. Surface mounted
socket outlets shall be fitted to steel boxes to BS 5733 : 1995. All socket outlet boxes shall

be fitted with a brass earth terminal. A 2.5mm green/yellow insulated copper fly lead
shall be fitted between the box and the socket outlet earth terminal.
