Minutes of KST VAAD B”H
February 28, 2023
ז '
ג"פשת רדא
Attendees: Sam Kapustin, Rabbi Shmuel Goldin, Kal Feinberg, Marilyn Mack, Jack Martell, Marty Weisberg,
Sabine Himmelfarb
Meeting called to order 4pm
Marty gave a Dvar Torah – Parshat Tzaveh, Moshe name is left out of the parsha and different reasons are
given. The parsha focuses on the Kohanim and their role in the Mishkan. Their role is about worship and
teaching to bring us close to G-d’s presence. Judaism being a religion of worship and teaching and KST’s
mission is to facilitate worship and teaching.
1. Minutes of last meeting were accepted.
2. Membership is 90 people, 49 units. Some members are absentee members but we are happy with the
growth in membership. We have to anticipate problems of space if we continue to grow, but presently
we can accommodate seats for 40 men and 30 women.
3. Financial report- 56312 shekel in income in 2022 from membership and donations. Expenses were
18380 including rent, legal fees, Kiddush, Cleaning, Insurance on Torahs, Guard on Yom Tov, Bank fees,
Misc. expenses.
Net income 38004 NIS
Future possible expenses to consider (Heating/AC unit for Lobby, Ner Tamid, Social Activities).
4. Banking - In practical terms do we need an amuta status since this will create many requirements of tax
filing etc?. Some professional advice says small groups like ours do not need amuta status.
Much effort has gone into setting up a bank account but current amount limits on Amuta Bank
accounts have made opening accounts difficult. These need to be explored further.
5. Daily Minyan - Numbers attending have been adequate. In setting up daily minyan at Beit Frankforter,
KST has been careful not to risk the ability of the playground minyan to continue. KST daily minyan has
also attracted some from the immediate BF neighborhood and BF is happy the building has a daily
minyan.
6. Venue at Beit Frankforter- Originally, BF was considered temporary while we explored other options.
Many efforts to deal with the Iriyah have not provided plans for KST future location. It appears that we
will not be able to have a property to build or to have Iriyah provide a space for us in a venue the city
plans to build in the near future. Their plans are years away from completion. We also have not found
alternative places to rent so we will continue at Beit Frankforter for the foreseeable future, perhaps
requesting to use other space in this building as needed.
7. Social and learning activities- ideas include trivia night, shared shabbat meals between members who
don’t know each other, a Shabbaton. We will need a volunteer to chair this committee and make it
happen.
8. Purim (Shushan). Plans to be in upstairs Ulam at BF. Tuesday night 6:05 mincha, 6:15 Megillah.
Wednesday morning 7:30 shaharit/megillah. Additional megillah reading at 10 am with Beit Frankforter
staff and clients joining.
9. Kiddush- Vaad decided that for any kiddush, shul will pay cost of rental of back room. Sponsors will pay
for cost of cleaning the back room. If there are no sponsors, KST will provide the Shabbat Mevorchim
kiddush and its costs. Sponsors who want small Kiddush (not on Shabbat Mevorchim) may do so
without using of back room, but they will need to set it up outside the building, not in the lobby, if they
wish to avoid cleaning costs.
Meeting adjourned: 5:15 pm
