have become DEAD to the law by the body of Christ; that you
should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the
dead . . . For when we WERE in the flesh the motions of sins, which
were by the LAW, did work in us to bring forth death. But now we
are delivered from the law, that being DEAD wherein we were
held.”
The gospel pictures us as being
married to Jesus, even now in this life,
and if we are married to Jesus
then we are dead to the law.
It’s often preached that we are ‘in the flesh’ when we sin, and
do bad things. Wrong! Paul says we are ‘in the flesh’ when we are
trying to live our Christian lives under the Old Covenant law.
Recall that Hebrews says ‘the law is a carnal commandment.’
Romans 6:6 says, “Our old man is crucified with Christ, that
the body of sin might be destroyed.”
Romans 6;14 says, “Sin shall not have dominion over you, for
you are NOT under the law, but under grace…
being made free from sin.”
In Romans 8:2 Paul says, “The law of the spirit of life in Christ
Jesus (the gospel) has made me free from the law of sin and death
(the Old Covenant law).
