COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - TOUCHING LIVES, MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Community involvement and service have always been fundamental goals of the NYAA. Young people on the
NYAA programme are inspired to volunteer their time to help improve the lives of others. They are involved
in local, regional or international communities, and they take on leadership roles to help the community
find solutions and address pressing issues. As a result, NYAA’s award recipients and participants develop into
well-rounded individuals with a passion for life and a deep sense of compassion for others. In 2020, the NYAA
participants faced the challenge of Covid-19 and engaged themselves in voluntary activities.
Meeting with Grassroot Leaders
Mr James Soh, Executive Director and Ms Aileen Yap,
Deputy Executive Director of the NYAA, attended a
lunch on 22 September 2020 hosted by the Chairman,
CCMC of Bedok Division, discussed the proposed
programmes for the Bedok Division of the East Coast
GRC. The proposed projects involved community
bonding activities and events about the arts, culture
and environmental protection. These activities will be
implemented in different phases when the COVID-19
pandemic eases. The NYAA received full support for
the partnership programme from both the Chairman Exploring new possibilities of serving the community with Bedok
of CCC and CCMC. Division’s grassroots leaders.
Partnership with AWWA Singapore
Mr Seah Hock Rong, NYAA Gold Award holder and
Vice-Chairman, Pi Ying Secondary School Advisory
Committee, has been appointed Manager of Asian
Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA). Mr Seah will
be introducing the NYAA Programme to AWWA Youth
Department. The NYAA is looking forward to working
in partnership with AWWA with some new initiatives
for its volunteers and members.
Initiative on Mental Wellness
The NYAA will be exploring with critical partners to
design a programme to raise awareness on mental
wellness, especially during these trying times. Many Proposed partnership with the newly appointed Manager of
