searching for a vein to place the IV. She applied alcohol on
the arm’s targeted area and tried to take Emilia’s mind off the
discomfort by asking her questions.
“Do you know what you’re having?” the nurse asked
while placing the IV inside the vein of Emilia’s left arm.
“Not yet,” Emilia said, a little frustrated by being caught
off guard by the insertion.
The knock came quietly first, and then a little more rap-
idly. “Good evening,” the nurse said as she entered the room.
“Good evening,” Emilia said.
“My name is Nurse Flowers. I’m so excited when God al-
lows little angels to enter this Earth. We have a room ready for
her in Labor and Delivery,” she continued.
“Good,” Nurse Wells said. Also, your family is ready to see
you. I told them that I would let them know once we get you
situated in labor and delivery.”
Emilia smiled.
“Alrighty, ready when you’re ready,” Nurse Wells said to
Nurse Flowers. I will push if you pave the way. Nurse Flowers
opened all the doors leading to Emilia’s labor and delivery
room as Nurse Wells pushed the bed.
“Here we are,” Nurse Wells said as she positioned Emilia
in her temporary delivery room. “Alrighty, can we get you to
switch beds?”
Emilia switched beds as the nurses pampered her mak-
ing sure that she was comfortable and cozy. “Thank you all so
much,” Emilia said.
“You’re quite welcome,” Nurse Wells said.
“No problem,” Nurse Flowers said. “I have some epidural
anesthesia papers that I need you to fill out, giving us consent
to go through with the procedure.
