“Thank you, Emilia said. “I’ll bring you a fresh cup of ice
chips as I give your family the okay to come right up,” Nurse
Flowers said.
“Thanks,” Emilia said as she wiped the tears. Nurse Wells
walked out of the labor and delivery room. Emilia began pray-
ing. “Father, In the name of Jesus Christ, thank you for allowing
me to carry another part of your creation, but please ease
the pain of these contractions. I would greatly appreciate it. I
ask and beg you in your son Jesus’ name, Amen,” Emilia said
painfully as the contractions started back.
“Thanks for thinking about it,” Emilia said as she placed
both of her hands on her stomach and looked upward. “Jesus
Christ!” Emilia exclaimed. Instantly the contractions eased.
Adriana tapped lightly, then opened the hospital door.
“There you are,” Emilia said.
“We wanted to come up sooner, but the nurse told us
that we had to wait until she got a room available for you,”
Adriana said as she embraced Emilia.
“Thank you so much, Emilia said as she started to weep.
“You don’t know how much this means to me.”
“Yes, we do, and there’s no need for that. We love you
and accept you as a part of our family,” Mrs. Sanchez said.
“You’re my new big sister,” Diego said. Everyone
laughed. “How is everyone?” Nurse Wells asked as she en-
tered the room.
“Good,” said Adriana. “Wonderful,” said Mrs. Sanchez.
“Awesome,” Katey said. “Tired,” Emilia said.
“That’s common for pregnant mothers, Nurse Wells said
as she handed Emilia a cup filled with ice chips.
“And hungry,” Emilia said.
“I can’t feed you until after you have the baby, Nurse
Wells said.
