Getting an inquiry
John: Can you tell me whether or not you carry the semiconductor ST-2800 at your facility? If so,
could you please tell me the quantity that you have?
Shin: That’s not a problem. We have stocks for about 400,000 ST-2800 personal computers at
our factory now.
John: Great! That’s good to know. How many units can you produce per day at your factory?
Shin: We have three units of machinery that can produce up to 60,000 units of ST-2800 in a day.
If you give us the orders for the ST-2800 ASAP, we can start the manufacturing process at any
time.
John: Wow! I’m impressed with the production efficiency you have. I would appreciate it if you
could give me some samples before I leave Korea. Is that possible, Mr. Shin? I plan to show
these samples during my presentation to our company’s board of directors. This is the body
that will decide on the orders that we will make.
Shin: Sure, that’s not a problem. I will have a sample of each model delivered to your office
right away. Thanks for your inquiry, Mr. John, and I hope that our product will get a favorable
reception at your board meeting.
John: Thank you very much for your prompt action, Mr. Shin. I will do my best at the board
meeting.
1. What kinds of inquiry do you usually receive?
Sample answer:
Our inquiries are usually about the stock availability of certain items. People usually
ask if we have a good stock of certain items at our warehouses.
2. What mode of inquiry is most effective for you? Why?
Sample answer:
I think nothing can still beat inquiries made on the phone. You get immediate answers
and you get to talk to a real person. People may think that email is okay, but I still want
to communicate with a person when I make inquiries.
3. Are you usually satisfied with the results of the inquiries you make? Why?
