took him to Herod saying peace be to you oh King of the Jews. Herod went
outside and said to them. I bring him outside to you so that you may know that I
find no cause against him. Jesus was taken outside with a crown of thorn on his
head; a reed in his hand and wearing the purple robe. Herod said to them behold
your King.
When the High priests and the counsel saw him cried out saying crucify him;
crucify him. Herod said shall I crucify your King. They said to him we have no
king but Caesar, crucify him; crucify him. After they mocked him some more the
soldiers removed the crown of thorns the reed from his hand and replace the
purple rope for his own clothes. Herod sent him back to Pilot with the message I
find no cause against him.
Praetorium Pilot
In the Praetorium Pilot receive the message from Herod and went out from the
presence of Jesus and the officers to the whole council and said to them you
brought me this man as if he were evil doer misleading your people. I have
examined him before your own eyes and I have found no fault in this man
concerning all that you accused him not even has Herod. I sent him to him and
we agree he has done nothing worth of death. I will chastise him and release
him. The Jews cried out if you release this man you are not a friend of Caesars
for whoever makes himself a king and refuse to pay to Caesar the head tax is
against Caesar.
When Pilot heard these words he had the officers bring Jesus outside. He sat
down on the Judgment Seat at a place which is called the stone pavement. It
was Friday of the Passover and it was about six o’clock. He said to the Jews
behold your King! Pilot knew that the high priests had delivered him because of
envy. They cried out take him away crucify him, crucify him. While the governor
was sitting on his judgment seat his wife sent to him and said to him. Have
nothing to do with that righteous man. Today I have suffered a great deal in my
dream because of him. Now on every feast day it was the custom of the governor
to release one prisoner to the people anyone whom they asked for. Pilot then
said there is a custom that I should release to you one at the Passover. Do you
wish that I release to you this King of the Jews or Barbbes.
Barbbes, because of sedition and murder he committed during the insurrection in
the city of Jerusalem was bound with those who took part and were placed in
prison. The high priests and elders urged the people to ask for Barbbes and to
destroy Jesus. Release to us Barbbes and destroy Jesus.
Pilot said why what evil has Jesus done. They cried out the more with loud voices
saying release to us Barbbes.
