INSTALLATION & STARTUP
Chapter 22 Initial Startup Procedure
Solution Delivery Module (SDM)
This section will explain the chemical pumps settings and determine initial setup prior to washing the
first vehicle.
1) Start-up Water Softener if not already done.
Note: Details on Water Softener Startup are covered in Chapter 11 of this document.
2) Using a water softening kit, test water for zero grains of hardness in the small tank.
3) Prime each pump with the appropriate chemical starting with Presoak 1 pump by turning the corresponding MCC Pump
Switch to the ON position. Rotate Priming Valve to full open. There should be an audible sound with column of fluid filling
to drain line.
Rotate and set Stroke rate (small knob) and Stroke length (large knobs) to 100%. Close Priming Valve when fluid reaches
pump. A solid column of fluid should be visible.
Continue pumping until solid column of fluid reaches Injection Valve. Flip corresponding pump switch left to the AUTO
position.
4) Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all pumps have been primed. Chemical should flow with no air in line.
5) Set Presoak 1 and Presoak 2 Pump Stroke Length per Chemical Supplier specifications by identifying the dilution ratio for
Presoak chemical. Determine Pulsatron™ setting percent using Table 6.1 later in this section. Dial in percent on pump.
Titration of chemical conforms to manufacturer requirements ± 5%.
6) Turn the Presoak1 Output Board switch to OFF and Force Presoak 1 at 10% until water come out through the nozzles.
This could take 1 to 2 minutes while filling the Hot Water Reservior.
7) RESET FORCE and flip the Presoak 1 switch back to AUTO.
8) If Applicable: Turn on the Super Heater Overload in the MCC and set the thermostat in the Super Heater’s Electrical
Enclosure to130°.
9) Wait 3 minutes and check the temperature gauge located on the end of the Super Heater. Adjust the thermostat per your
chemical supplier’s recommendations. Notice that the water temperature displayed on the gauge is greater than the
thermostat setting due to temperature gradients within the Reservior. We recommend an initial setting of 160° on the
Super Heater temperature gauge. The gauge should never display more than 170°.
Hot Water Reservior may be VERY HOT and can cause SERIOUS
burns or injury.
10) Titrate PRESOAK 1 and PRESOAK 2 Dilution by returning to the HMI Main screen. Move through USER, FORCE,
ENABLE FORCE, and finally PRESOAK 1. Set pump speed at 10% and press ENTER. Allow chemical flow for 30
seconds. Collect sample at manifold and titrate. Press the Reset / Force button to turn “OFF”. Titration of chemical
conforms to manufacturer requirements +/- 5%.
