‘vloermoer’ werd. Sy daarenteen, was amper nooit sonder vriende nie, altyd by ander om
haar lot te bekla en bewondering op te eis. Dit was net onmoontlik om ‘n verskoning of ‘ek is
jammer’ uit haar te kry. Sy was net nooit verkeerd nie of daar was altyd ‘n rede oor hoekom
sy so reageer het. Ek was plein te dom om te verstaan of in te sien dat sy ‘n reg gehad het om
so op te tree.
Narcissism and the Illusion of change
People with narcissistic personality
disorder including those with strong or
dominant narcissistic traits may alter their
behaviours sporadically, however, the
psychological dynamics of narcissism will
typically remain for a lifetime. The
promise that the narcissist will change is a
psychological manipulative setup as
narcissists are extremely resistant to
changing their behaviour. The paradox
here is that the only thing that stops a
narcissist from making any significant and
meaningful change is in fact their own
narcissism. Meaningful growth is often
the result of a conscious motivation to
change, however, a narcissist will typically
be unable to see they have a problem or
incapable of caring that a problem exists.
Quite simply, a narcissist is extremely
single-minded and maintains the belief
that they are never wrong. The promise of
change while verbally expressed is rarely
supported by consistent action over the
long term. (W Hardy Rising above
