Axles, Transmission Shafts - Front Axle AX-27

11. Check the front axle for bend and deformation IN

a. Place the front axle on the workbench so that the plate
spring seat is in a horizontal position. DI
b. Suspend a thin wire with heavy weights at both ends in the
center of the kingpin hole of the two steering knuckles and

observe if the center hole of the two plate spring seats
coincides with the thin wire. To check the coincidence of the
front and the rear direction of front axle. If the center hole of TR
spring seat does not coincide with the center line draw. Means

bending of the shaft in front and rear. Check the bending of
the front axle in the up-down direction by measuring whether AX
the height from the center of the upper plane of the left and
the right plate springs to the centerline is equal with each
FR
other. When the height of the left and the right side is not
equal, it means bending of the shaft in front and rear.

12. Check the front axle for torsion and deformation ST

a. Install the knuckle kingpin in the king pin hole on the
left and right knuckles of the front axle. Check whether BR
the left and right pins overlap at both ends of the front
axle. Check the left and the right plate spring seat is
BW
perpendicular to and steering knuckle kingpin at the same

time. If not, means the front axle is twisting.

13. Install the front axle assembly

a. Pull the front axle assembly into proper place under the vehicle with horizontal jack and raise the horizontal

jack to the fitting position slowly.

b. Install the u-bolt of front plate spring, front bumper
block, and lower bracket of front shock absorber.

c. Install the u-bolt fixing nut of front plate spring
d. Use a torque wrench to tighten the u-bolt fixing nut of
front plate spring diagonally.
Torque: 260~300N•m

14. Install the left and right front steering knuckle assembly(See "Chapter ST Steering System -
Steering Mechanism - Steering knuckle, Maintenance")
15. Install the left and right front brake assembly (see chapter BR "Brake system - Service Brake (air
pressure) - Front wheel brake, Replacement")
16. Install the left and right front wheel hub assembly (See Chapter AX Axles, Transmission Shafts -
Front Axle / Front Drive Axle - Front Axle - Front Wheel Hub, Service)
17. Install the left and right front brake chamber assembly (see chapter BR "Brake system - Service
Brake (air pressure) - Front brake chamber, Maintenance")
18. Install left and right front wheels and install wheel nuts
19. Lift the front of the vehicle and remove the safety stool
20. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts
