           F. W. WOOLWORTH HISTORIC MARKER UNVEILED SATURDAY
A marker to recognize the bravery of some high school students in 1960, was unveiled on Saturday, May 19, 2018. It was February 29, 1960 when Clarence Fort, the President of the NAACP Youth Council, led a group of students from Mid- dleton and Blake High Schools to the lunch counter at F. W. Woolworth in downtown Tampa, in an attempt to be served. Tammie Fields, Atty. Arthenia Joyner and Clarence Fort worked together for several months to make sure the stu- dents’ bravery was recognized. Among those who attended the event on Saturday were: Rev. Shafter Scott (who was President of the Blake Student Council), Mayor Bob Buck- horn, Inez Anderson, Atty. Joyner, Clarence Fort, Commis- sioner Les Miller and Alonzia Miller. The late George Edgecomb was the President of the Middleton Student Coun- cil.
