                                For he has sold us, eò¢ÖþÖ×Ðô−¤Ìk                                              Adonoy Who said to me, − †ÔñÑêþ¤ÑôÒêÞÖíí„ÖBíÐ−

                                 16. All the wealth þÓL †¼Öí-ñÖ×−¤Ìk .ï¬                                    and I will do good with you.’ :CÞÖn̼íÖë−'̬−ÑêÐî
                   that Elohim rescued from our father eò− flÌëÖêÞÑô·ó−ÌíGÍêñ−¥ÌvÌíþ ¶ÓLÎê

                                                                                                  for the giving of a gift, for prayer and for war:  .íÖôÖìÐñÌôÐñe íÖlÌõгÌñ ,öBþBðÐñ
                                                                                                          For the giving of a gift, [as it says:]  öBþBðÐñ
                  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI  é"ùøAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA  “The present passed on ahead of him.” 22  ,î−ÖòÖtñÔ¼íÖìÐòÌnÔí þBëμÔzÔî

                                                                                                         “The God of my father Avraham.” 23  ,óÖíÖþÐëÔê−ÌëÖê−ÑíGÍê
                             [14] Do we still have?  .eðÈì ãBòÇä [ãé]
               Why should we prevent you from returning?  ?ëeLÖlÌôEÐðÖ−ñÔ¼ëÑkÔ¼ÐòíÖnÖñ                              For war, [as it says:]  íÖôÖìÐñÌôÐñ
                      Do we have any hope of inheriting  LÔþ−Ìñ ³BñÎìÔ−ÐôeòÖê óeñÐk                      “The remaining camp will survive.”  :íÖ¬−ÑñÐõÌñþÖêÐLÌpÔííÓòÎìÔnÔííÖ−ÖíÐî
                      anything of the estate of our father,  óeñÐk eò−ÌëÖê−ѽÐ×ÌpÌô                 [10] And God of my father Yitzchok.  .÷ÈçÀöÄééÄáÈàéÅäGàÅå [é]
                       among the males [of his family]?  :ó−ÌþÖ×ÐfÔíö−Ña                     Whereas elsewhere he says “the Fear of Yitzchok.” 24  ?šÖìЮÌ−ðÔìÔõe þÑôBê êeí öÖlÔíÐñe
                                                                                                 And, furthermore, why does he go on to repeat  þ−ÌkÐïÌíÐîþÔïÖìÓLeíÔôe :ðB¼Ðî
        [15] Are we not considered by him as strangers?  .Bì eðÀáÇLÀçÆð úBiÄøÀëÈð àBìÂä [åè]
                    Even when it is customary for people  óÖðÖê−ÑòÐaCÓþÓcÓLíÖ¼ÖLÐa el−ÌõÎê                the Tetragrammaton [−ÔñÑêþÑôBêÖí’í]?  ?ðÖìe−ÐôÔíóÑL
                       to give a dowry to their daughters  î−Ö³BòÐëÌñêÖ−ÐòeðÐò³Ñ³Öñ                           It should have been written,  :ëBzÐ×ÌñBñíÖ−Öí

                           at the time of their marriage  ö−ÌêeO−Ìò³Ô¼ÐLÌa                                    “Who said to me ‘return.’”  !’îèî EЮÐþÔêÐñ ëeL −ÔñÑêþÑôBêÖí
                        he acted toward us as strangers,  ,³BiÌþÐ×ÖòÐkeòÖn̼èÔíÖò                   But, this is what Yaakov was saying to God:  :í"ÖaÖwÔí−ÑòÐõÌñëҚμÔ−þÔôÖêCÔkêÖlÓê
               for he sold us to you as wages for your work.  :íÖle¼ÐtÔíþÔ×ÐNÌaCÖñeòÖþÖ×Ðô−Ìk             “You made two promises to me—  ,−ÌòÔzÐìÔ¬ÐëÌí ³BìÖ¬ÐëÔí−ÑzÐL
                                                                                              one, when I left my father’s house from Beer Sheva  ,¼ÔëÓLþÑêÐaÌô−ÌëÖê³−ÑaÌô−̳êÑ®Ðë³ÔìÔê
                                     Our money.  .eðÅtÀñÇkúÆà
                                                                                                                   when You said to me,  ,−ÌñÖzÐþÔôÖêÓL
               For he withheld the wages for your work. 204  :EÓ³Öle¼ÐtþÔ×ÐN−ÑôÐcëÑk̼ÓL
                                                                                                   ‘I am Adonoy, God of Avraham, your father,  E−ÌëÖêóÖíÖþÐëÔê−ÑíGÍê’í−ÌòÎê
                              [16] All the wealth.  .øÆLòÈä-ìÈëéÄk [æè]
                                                                                                                 and God of Yitzchok,’ 26  ,šÖìÐ ®Ì−−ÑíGêÑî
                         The word −Ìk here is used as but,  ,êÖlÓê öBLÐñÌaLÑnÔLÐôíÓï−Ìk
                                                                                                                and, there You said to me,  :−ÌñÖzÐþÔôÖêóÖLÐî
         as if to say: “We have nothing of our father’s [wealth]  ,óeñÐk eòÖñö−Ñê eò−ÌëÖêñÓMÌô,þÔôBñÐk
                                                                                                        ‘I will guard you wherever you go,’ 27  ,CÑñÑzþÓLÎêñÒ×ÐaE−ÌzÐþÔôÐLe
               but that which God salvaged from our father  ,eò−ÌëÖêÑôí"ÖaÖwÔíñ−ÌvÌíÓLíÔôêÖlÓê
                                                                                                        and, in Lavan’s house You said to me,  ,−ÌñÖzÐþÔôÖêöÖëÖñ³−ÑëÐëe
                              that is what is ours.” 205  :êeí eòÖlÓL
                                                                                                          ‘Return to the Land of your father,  E−Ó³BëÎê±ÓþÓêñÓê ëeL
                                       Rescued.  .ìéÄvÄä                                        and to your birthplace, and I will be with you.’ 28  ,CÖn̼íÓ−ÐíÓêÐî,EÓzÐðÔñBôÐñe
                            [ñ−Ì®Ìí] means He separated.  .L−ÌþÐõÌí öBLÐñ                              And there You revealed Yourself to me  −ÔñÑêÖ³−ÑñÐèÌòóÖLÐî
                    Similarly, all terms of íÖñÖ®Ôí in Scripture  êÖþКÌnÔaÓLíÖñÖvÔí öBLÐññÖköÑ×Ðî  only with the Proper Name [Tetragrammaton]  ,BcÔëÐñðÖìe−ÐôÔíóÑLÐa
                         has the meaning of separation  ,íÖLÖþÐõÔí öBLÐñ                              as it is said, ‘And Adonoy said to Yaakov,  ëҚμÔ−ñÓê’íþÓôêÒiÔî:þÔôÍêÓpÓL
         for he separates him from the evil or from the enemy.  :ëÑ−BêÖíöÌôe íÖ¼ÖþÖíöÌô BL−ÌþÐõÔnÓL  “Return to the land of your fathers,”’ etc.  ’îèî E−Ó³BëÎê±ÓþÓêñÓê ëeL
