 18. Their words were agreeable in the eyes of Chamor, þB¢ôÎì−¤Ñò−ѼÐaó£Óí−ÑþÐëÌðe'ëЬ−ÞÌiÔî .ì−  if you will be like us, eò flÒôÖ×e¤−ÐíÌzóÌêƒ
 and in the eyes of Shechem, the son of Chamor. :þB ÞôÎì-öÓaó'Ó×ÐL−£Ñò−ѼÐëe  circumcising all your males. :þÞÖ×Öï-ñÖkó£Ó×Öññ 'ÒnÌíÐñ
 19. The young men did not delay doing the thing þ flÖëÖcÔí³B ¤NμÞÔñ·þÔ¼¶ÔpÔíþ¥ÔìÑê-ê ÞGÐî .¬−  16. [Then] we will give our daughters to you, ó flÓ×Öñ·eò−¶Ñ³ÒòÐa-³Óêep¥Ô³ÖòÐî .ï¬
 because he desired the daughter of Yaakov. ë¢ÒšÎ¼ÞÔ−-³ÔëÐa±£ÑõÖì−'Ìk  and we will take your daughters for ourselves. eò¢Öñ-ìÔwÌòó£Ó×−ѳÞÒòÐa-³ÓêÐî
 He was the most honored person in his father’s house. :î−ÞÌëÖê³−'Ñañ£ÒkÌôð flÖaÐ×Ìòêe¤íÐî  We will live together with you, ó flÓ×ÐzÌêeòÐë¤ÔLÖ−Ðî
 20. Chamor and his son, Shechem came B£òÐaó'Ó×ÐLe þB§ôÎìê'ÒëÖiÔî.×  and we will become one people. :ðÞÖìÓêó'Ô¼Ðñ eò−£Ì−ÖíÐî
 to the gate of their city, ó¢Öþ−̼þÔ¼¤ÔL-ñÓê  17. But if you do not listen to us eò−£ÑñÑêe§¼ÐôÐL̳ê«G-óÌêÐî .ï−
 and they spoke to the men of their city saying, :þ ÞÒôêÑñó£Öþ−̼−'ÑLÐòÔê-ñÓêe§þÐaÔðÐ−Ôî  to be circumcised, ñB¢nÌíÐñ
 21. “These men are completely at peace with us. eò †ÖzÌêó¤Ñíó−«ÌôÑñÐLíÓl‚ÑêÖíó− ¶ÌLÖòÎêÞÖí .ê×  we will take our daughter and go.” :eòÐ ×ÞÖñÖíÐîeò£ÑzÌa-³ÓêeòÐì'ÔšÖñÐî
 Let them live in the land and trade in it. d flÖ³Òêe¤þÎìнÌ−Ðî·±Óþ¶ÖêÖëe¥ëÐLÞÑ−Ðî

 The land has ample room to be open to them. ó¢Óí−ÑòÐõÌñóÌ−£ÔðÖ−-³ÔëÎìÞÔþí'ÑpÌí±Óþ§ÖêÖíÐî
 We will take their daughters for wives, ó− flÌLÖòÐñeò¤Öñ-ìÔwÌò·óÖ³ÒòÐa-³Óê  from the word e³BêÑ−Ôî—“and they were agreeable.” 115  :e³BêÑ−Ôî öBLÐñ
 and we will give them our daughters. :óÞÓíÖñö'ÑzÌò eò−£Ñ³ÒòÐa-³ÓêÐî  Circumcising.  .ìBnÄäÀì
                          [Meaning:] to be circumcised.  ,ñBnÌò ³B−ÐíÌñ
 22. But only on these terms ³ê£ÒïÐa…-CÔê .ë×
                      It is not an active infinitive—to do,  ñB¼ÐõÌñ öBLÐñ Bò−Ñê
 will the men consent to live with us, eò flÖzÌê³Óë¤ÓLÖñ·ó−ÌLÖòÎêÞÖíeò¥Öñe³¶ÒêÑ−  but rather, an inactive infinitive—to be done. 116  :ñѼÖtÌíÐñ öBLÐñêÖlÓê

 23. Their livestock, their possessions and all their cattle, ó flÖzÐôÓíÐa-ñÖ×Ðî·óÖòÖ−ÐòÌšÐîó¥ÓíÑòКÌô .è×  And we will take your daughters for ourselves.  .eðÈìçÇwÄðíÆëéÅúÉðÀa-úÆàÀå

           in that they could select the daughters of Shechem  óÓ×ÐL ³BòÐaìÔw−Ìñ
 [21] Completely at peace.  .íéÄîÅìÀL [àë]  according to their choice,  ,óÓíÖñeþÎìÐëÌiÓL³Óê
 [Meaning:] in peace and wholeheartedly.  :óÑñÖLëÑñÐëe óBñÖLÐa  and give their daughters as they saw fit, as it is written,  :ë−̳Ð×Ìc,óÖzмÔð−ÌõÐñóÓíÖñeòÐzÌ−óÓ í−ѳBòÐëe
 The Land has ample room.  .íÄéÇãÈé-úÇáÂçÇøäÅpÄäõÆøÈàÈäÀå  “We will give our daughters”—as we see fit.  ,eòÑzмÔð−ÌõÐñ eò−ѳBòÐa³ÓêepÔ³ÖòÐî
 Like a person who is open-handed and generous.  ,³−ÌòÖþÐzÔîe íÖëÖìÐþBðÖiÓLóÖðÖêÐk  “And we will take your daughters,”  eòÖñìÔwÌòóÓ×−ѳBòÐa³ÓêÐî
 The idea being: “You will lose nothing, 119  óeñÐk eð−̽ÐõÔ³êG,þÔôBñÐk  whichever we see fit.  .±BtÐìÔòþÓLÎêñÒ×Ðk
 for much merchandise has arrived here  ,öêÔ×ÐñíÖêÖaíÑaÐþÔíêÖ−ЬÔôКÔþÐt  Whereas, when Chamor, and his son, Shechem, spoke  BòÐaóÓ×ÐLe þBôÎìeþÐaÌcÓLÐ×e
 and it has no buyers.”  :ó−ÌòBš dÖñö−ÑêÐî  to the inhabitants of their city they reversed the words,  :ó−ÌþÖëÐcÔí e×ÐõÖí,óÖþ−̼−ÑëÐLB− ñÓê
           [saying:] “We will take their daughters as wives 117  ó−ÌLÖòÐñ eòÖñìÔwÌòóÖ³BòÐa³Óê
 [22] Must be circumcised.  .ìBnÄäÀa [áë]
                        and give them our daughters. 118  ,óÓíÖñöÑzÌò eò−ѳBòÐa³ÓêÐî
 [ñBôÌíÐa means] by being circumcised.  :ñBnÌò ³B−ÐíÌa
                  [They did this] in order to convince them  óÖ³BvÔþÐñ−ÑðÐk
 [23] Only let us consent to them.  .íÆäÈìäÈúBàÅðCÇà [âë]
                          to consent to be circumcised.  :ñBnÌíÐñ e³BêÑiÓL
