There was not much vis- ible damage to the outside of a home that caught fire Sept. 28 in the 1300 block of K Street in Reedley and claimed the life of a local man, now identified as 68-year-old Charles Canaan.
“When our first unit arrived on scene, they initiated rescue and located one male subject in- side the structure,” said Justin Watson, battalion chief with the Reedley Fire Department. “We extricated the patient from the structure and after EMS evalua- tion the subject was pronounced deceased.”
Watson said the call came in shortly before 11 p.m. after re- ports of a fire in the area with someone possibly trapped in- side.
“After Reedley Police of- ficers arrived on scene it was then reported to be an active rescue with one patient still inside the residence,” said Wat- son. “There was a room and its contents on fire.”
