OPENING CEREMONY HELD FOR WARREN HOPE DAWSON
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The Opening Ceremony for Warren Hope Dawson Elementary School in Riverview was held on Saturday, April 28th. The school opened its doors to more than 500 students in August of 2017. At- torney Dawson, a native of Mulberry, Florida, and graduate of Florida A&M University, served as an officer in the U. S. Army. He returned to school after his military stint and earned his law de- gree from Howard University, School of Law, graduating in 1966. The Civil Rights attorney became the first African American to practice in federal court in Tampa. Attorney Dawson is best known for his role as lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the now famous 1974 lawsuit known as Manning vs. the School Board of Hillsbor- ough County.
