BLACK ELECTED OFFICIALS SWORN IN TUESDAY
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Myers was sworn in Tuesday morning, November 17th, at County Center as the new County Commissioner for District 3. Com- missioner Myers replaces Lesley “Les” Miller, who had termed out.
A retired County employee, Mrs. Myers was sworn in by Florida Supreme Court Justice (Ret.) Peggy Quince. Holding the Bible are: Mrs. Myers’ hus- band, Randolph, and seated, partially hidden, her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Williams. (Photograph by BRUNSON)
Henry “Shake” Washington was also sworn in on Tues- day. He became a new member of the Hillsborough County School Board, representing District 5. Judge Perry A. Little (Ret.) conducted the swearing in ceremony, while Washing- ton’s daughter, Dr. JaMia Washington, right, held the Bible. In a run-off, Washington defeated incumbent Tamara Sham- burger.
